The theme of this International Transformative Learning Conference centers on the transformative power of learning to address the collective challenges of our time – on local and global levels. By emphasizing the collective dimension of learning—learning with and for each other—the conference explores its potential to drive systemic change and foster large-scale transformation. Grounded in the concept of co-creation, the theme highlights the necessity of collaborative, creative, and relational approaches to navigating complex challenges. Through this lens, the conference emphasizes learning as both a personal and communal act. We invite participants to explore how transformative learning can catalyze the “big” and “small” transformations necessary to navigate today’s interconnected challenges.
Why “Art”?
We chose “art” because it reflects the creative, nuanced, and often non-linear processes required to navigate the complexities of learning for change. Addressing collective challenges is not a straightforward task; it involves imagination, thinking in alternatives, empathy, and the ability to weave diverse perspectives into reflection and collaborative action. It requires vision, skill, and a deep understanding of relational dynamics. At the same time, “art” also implies depth and reflection, based on mastery of techniques, on frameworks, and exercised practice. In this way, “The Art of Co-Creating Change” reflects the conference’s goal to inspire approaches that are as thoughtful and evidence-based as they are imaginative and transformative.
Why “Co-Creation”?
The choice of the word “co-creation” stems from our belief in the power of collaboration. Co-creation is a process of acting together, fostering solidarity, and emphasizing relationality. By working collaboratively, we acknowledge that no single individual or group holds the answers to our challenges. Instead, solutions arise from shared efforts, mutual learning, and a commitment to inclusivity.
Why “Change”?
The focus on “change” recognizes the urgent need to address the complex challenges we face—whether they are local, societal, or global. From societal inequities to the existential threats of climate change, lost of home, wars, and growing economic disparities, these challenges demand responses that are grounded in solidarity and shared responsibility, leading to transformative shifts in how we collectively live, learn, and act.
