My Promise and My Root by Etan Pavavalung
Past Conferences & Proceedings
The first Transformative Learning Conference was held in 1998 at Teachers College in New York City. Jack Mezirow invited scholars and practitioners to come together to discuss the ideas he had been writing about and to promote reflection about what he called “a theory in progress.”
Since its founding, the conference flourished and now draws people from around the world; it was renamed as the International Transformative Learning Conference (ITLC) in 2001, when the conference was held in Canada. The conference is now held bi-annually and engages a network of nearly 3000 scholars from about 20 countries around the world.
